On Oct. 28, associates at Life Care Center of Littleton, Colorado, transformed their facility into The Wonderful World of Oz.
A month prior to the holiday, recreation therapist Stephanie Luckey suggested having a Wizard of Oz themed Halloween, and her team of associates loved the idea.
The festivities began with a viewing of the Wizard of Oz movie and trivia games for residents, which continued throughout the month.
The facility was decorated to match the different landscapes in the film, including a poppy field, Dorothy’s house in Kansas and The Emerald City.
Luckey and the recreation therapy department led the decorating process, with the help of many associates along the way. The social services department assisted with the transformation of the facility, and Christine Cashion and Karen Seper, both registered nurses at the facility, built trees, poppy flowers and other necessary props. A local high school lent the facility additional props to complete the Lollipop Guild, Yellow Brick Road and Witch’s Castle.
On the day of the event, associates dressed as characters from The Wizard of Oz, and more than 100 children from the community trick-or-treated at the facility.
“Our associates did an outstanding job of making this a special day,” said Michelle Fraternali, executive director.
